Over 25 legendary NHL seasons - and four more in the WHA - Gordie Howe secured his status as one of hockey's all-time elite players. Leo Boivin played with Howe in the 1956 and 1957 seasons; it was common practice that the players would get new skates at the start of each season. Children of the players would try on the old skates and keep the ones that fit them. Leo's son, Paul Boivin, had feet that fit Gordie Howe's skates, and thus "Mr. Hockey" made a gift of them to his teammate. These Bauer beauties have size 8 1/2 stamped on the bottom of the skate and the heel of each bears a sticker with Howe's number "9" in white. They show nice use throughout, come with both blade protectors, and are style matched to Getty image 147930350. This special lot comes with a handwritten LOA from Paul Boivin, Leo's son. Gordie still holds numerous NHL records, including that for Most Games Played with 1,767, and that does not include his WHA tenure.
