Famous character was the combination of a duck’s bill, cat’s whiskers, cocker spaniel’s ears, giraffe’s neck, Dachshund’s body, seal’s flippers, pig’s tail and the memory of an elephant. Initially voiced by Buffalo Bob’s all-time favorite funnyman, Dayton Allen, this meatball and spaghetti loving character caused a sensation when he first appeared in 1948. He starred on the show for the next 12 years and to this day is adored by the Howdy Doody alumni. Flub was born from the creative genius of Eddie Kean, imaged on paper by Milt Neil and constructed by the magic hands of Scott Brinker. His magnificently carved head was repainted from blue to red when the show went to color and his head disappeared against the blue Chroma-key background. Evidence of his old color is peaking through some of age cracks on the back of his vintage head. Mouth is animated, as are his eyes and Persian wool ears. His tongue, whiskers and flippers are made from inner-tube rubber. Still has the original medallion that the Mayor of Staten Island gave to him. As a 54-year old, Flub-A-Dub has held up very well, small holes in the material of his giraffe neck needs some fixing.
