Joe "Ducky" Medwick was a Hall of Fame left fielder who spent the majority of his Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Presented is in our estimation, the finest Ducky Medwick game used bat on the planet, a 1937-40 Pre-Model Hillerich & Bradsby hickory bat. Medwick was born and raised in Carteret, New Jersey. He played in the Major Leagues for 17 seasons: St. Louis Cardinals (1932-40 & 1947-48), Brooklyn Dodgers (1940-43), New York Giants (1943-45), Boston Braves (1945), Brooklyn Dodgers (1946). He batted a career .324 with 205 home runs. He was the last NL player to win the Triple Crown (1937), and he won the NL MVP that season. He was given his "Ducky" nickname in the early 1930s while playing in the minor leagues with Buffalo. Some teammates thought he walked like a duck, and they called him "Ducky Wucky" or just "Ducky." Medwick despised the Ducky Wucky nickname, and he plainly disliked the Ducky nickname, so he promoted an alternative nickname, "Muscles," with middling success. Medwick was a key part of the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals World Champions and Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis took Medwick out of the final game of the 1934 World Series when the home team fans of the Detroit Tigers kept throwing fruit and soda bottles at him because of a dispute with a Tigers player.
