Circa 1955-59 Roberto Clemente rare early career professional model bat. Hillerich & Bradsby Model S2 ash bat  measures 35.0" and weighs 33.0 ounces and is uncracked with no use displayed. Early in his career, the future Hall of Famer often went by his childhood nickname, "Momen," which is stamped on the barrel as his first name instead of Roberto (or "Bob," as he also used early on), and his number 21 is written on the knob in slightly fading thick, black marker. He stopped using "Momen" after 1959, thus dating the era conclusively. Per the included PSA LOA, this bat is consistent with Clemente's order history and the provenance is rock solid as this specimen originates from the personal collection of a Major League star of the 1940s and '50s. Though his tragic death on New Year's Eve of 1972 on a mission of mercy for earthquake survivors hastened his entrance into the halls of Cooperstown, Roberto had more than earned his slot as a Pittsburgh Pirates legend, amassing exactly 3,000 career hits with four batting titles, two World Series crowns, 12 Gold Glove awards, and 15 All Star Game nods. Amazing early piece from the first stages in the career of one of baseball's all-time greats.
