Texas Rangers home jersey worn by outfielder Al Oliver in 1978. The white knit jersey is lettered "Rangers" on the front and features the number "0" on the reverse. "Oliver" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in red on blue tackle twill. Located in the collar are a "Wilson 42" label and a white strip tag, upon which both the year and set number ("78 2") are chain-stitched in blue. A Texas Rangers team patch appears on the left sleeve. The name on the reverse has been restored; otherwise the jersey is original as issued. Moderate wear is displayed throughout, including a few tiny, scattered light stains. The jersey is accompanied by a pair of Montreal Expos home pants worn by Oliver in 1982. A "Rawlings 32" label appears in the waistband, along with a white strip tag bearing the uniform number, size, inseam measurement, set number and player name (0 33/34/ 23 1 82 Oliver") chain-stitched in red. Heavy wear is displayed throughout, including large team repairs to tears on the both the front and back of the right leg.
Al Oliver led the Rangers in both batting average (.324) and RBI (89) in 1978, while also totaling 14 home runs. One of the top hitters in baseball during his eighteen Major-League seasons (1968-85), he finished his career with 219 home runs, 1,326 RBI, and a .303 lifetime average.
