Presented is a 1977 Willie Horton Texas Rangers white, game worn jersey. Horton, nicknamed "Willie the Wonder," was a left fielder and designated hitter who played in the Major Leagues from 1963-80. Born in Virginia and raised in Detroit, Michigan, he was on the Tigers from '63-77, and he played on five other AL teams from 1977-80. In 1977, he was supplanted from his role as a left fielder by Steve Kemp and from his designated hitter assignments by Rusty Staub, and the Detroit fan favorite was sent to the Texas Rangers on April 12th, after playing only one game for the Tigers that season. In '77, when Horton wore the offered jersey, he batted .289 with 15 home runs and 75 RBI. Horton was a 4-time AL All-Star and a key force on the 1968 Detroit World Champions. Willie blasted a career 325 home runs, and when he retired, he was 6th all-time in home runs for American League right-handed hitters. Horton's best season was in '68, when he was second in AL home runs (36).

The consignor obtained the jersey from Horton. The offered Wilson fabric home jersey has a Wilson manufacturer's tag in the neck that shows the size as "46." Across the chest is "Rangers" in sewn-on red letters with blue and silver trim. Two white/silver buttons are below the neck. The short sleeves are in red, white, and blue stripes. On back is HORTON, in red sewn-on block letters with blue trim. There is a name change on back under "Horton," so someone wore the jersey before him. Below "HORTON" is "23" in sewn-on red numerals with light blue trim. There is heavy wear to front "Rangers" and to numbers on back. The jersey was previously framed, so there is tape residue on left sleeve. "Zisk" and "Godard" are both handwritten, by an unknown hand, in black marker under the back tail. There is a repair to the lower part of the left sleeve and a few very small stains.
