Presented is an incredible photo of the 1919 World Champion Cincinnati Reds. Although Cincinnati won the 1919 World Series, 5-3 in games, the losing team was the infamous Chicago White Sox, who became known as "The Black Sox" after eight of their players were banned from baseball for life for consorting with gamblers where the ways and means of throwing the '19 World Series were discussed. The banned Black Sox included Shoeless Joe Jackson, Buck Weaver, Eddie Cicotte, Chuck Gandil, Swede Risberg, Lefty Williams, Oscar "Happy" Felsch, and Fred McMullin. 

Cincinnati's key players, all included in the offered photo, included Hall of Fame outfielder Edd Roush (top row, fourth from left), first baseman Jake Daubert, third baseman Heinie Groh (top row, fourth from right), and outfielder Greasy Neale, also a pro football star and later a famed college football coach. Pat Moran, also in the photo, managed the Reds to a 96-44 regular season record in 1919. The photo was consigned from the family of Jake Daubert. Daubert is pictured in the photo wearing his first baseman's mitt, in the front row on the left. Daubert led the NL in batting in both 1913 and 1914, and he was the NL MVP in 1913. Jake Daubert tied with Groh for the club lead in runs scored, with 79. Tragically, Daubert died in October in 1924 when against doctors' orders, he returned from an illness to play for the Reds at the end of the '24 season, and he died soon after following an appendectomy operation and then complications from a blood disease of which Daubert and his doctors were not aware. A plaque at the bottom of the photo reads, "Cincinnati Reds 1919 World Series Champions Black Sox Scandal." The photo has "1919" and "Boellinger Cin. O. (the photographer)" handwritten by an unknown hand near the bottom. The photo has a tiny smudge at the top and two folds on the right side. The photo also exhibits some slight darkening. Especially taking into account that the photo is over a century old, its minor imperfections do not diminish to any significant extent the photo's appearance.
