New York Yankees road jersey worn by pitcher Jim Abbott during the 1993 season. The gray knit jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "25" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in navy on white tackle twill. A "Russell Athletic 48" label is located on the left front tail. Directly below the label is a white strip tag bearing both Abbott's last name and the year, "93." Two adjacent flag tags read, respectively, 100% Polyester, and 2" Extra Length. The jersey is original as issued and displays heavy wear, including fraying to the stitching on both the lettering and numerals.

Jim Abbott was one of the most celebrated athletes of the past century due to his handicap of having only one functional arm (he was born with a deformed right arm that had no hand). Despite that fact, he enjoyed a stellar amateur career at the University of Michigan and was a key member of the 1988 United States Olympic Baseball Team that won a gold medal in Seoul, Korea (Abbott defeated Japan in the championship game). As the first pick of the California Angels in the 1989 MLB draft, he immediately earned a spot in the starting rotation and finished his rookie season with a record of 12-12. After four seasons with the Angels, he was traded to the New York Yankees. In his first season in pinstripes, Abbott won 11 games, one of which was a no-hitter on September 4th at Yankee Stadium. Abbott played only two seasons with the Yankees. As such, his Yankees jerseys are scarce and have always been highly coveted by collectors. This is an outstanding example dating from his first season in New York.
