His over-the-shoulder catch in deep center field at the Polo Grounds in the 1954 World Series against Vic Wertz of the Cleveland Indians is so universally admired that it is simply known as "The Catch." After the Giants moved west, Mays continued his great play for the team in San Francisco, with an overall .302 career batting average and 660 home runs, and he finished his playing with the New York Mets.
