Detroit Tigers home jersey worn by Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson in 1980. The white knit jersey features the club's "D" logo on the left breast and features the number "11" on the reverse. "Anderson" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the number. The logo and all letters and numerals are applied in navy tackle twill. A "Wilson 40" label appears in the collar, to the right of which is a small white strip tag bearing the number "9" chain-stitched in navy (the number most likely corresponds to an internal Detroit Tigers inventory system, as we have seen other such unrelated numbers sewn in various Tigers game-used garments from the era). The year and set number, "80 1," are chain-stitched in navy upon a small, white strip tag located on the left front tail. Anderson has signed the jersey vertically in black marker (grading 7/10) on the front, directly below the team logo. The jersey is original as issued and displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including soiling in the collar and small, scattered stains on both the front and reverse. 

1980 marked Sparky Anderson's first full season with the Tigers. When Anderson was hired by the Tigers in mid-season of 1979, he immediately predicted that the Tigers would win a World Championship in five years. In 1984 Anderson made good on that boast as the Tigers won the World Series to capture the club's first title in sixteen years and fourth in franchise history. The victory also made him the first manager to win a World Series in both leagues. One of the greatest managers of the modern era, Anderson won five pennants and three World Series combined with the Reds and Tigers in his twenty-six seasons. Always highly popular with the fans, Anderson's number 11 was officially retired by the Tigers on June 26, 2011. He was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.
