Pete Rose, the MLB "Hit King," had 4,256 hits, and he was a widely known as an absolute glutton for batting practice, tremendous amounts of BP. In fact, during spring training, he was known to both pay minor league pitchers and treat them to dinner if they would throw extra batting practice to him, and he often hit even after his hands bled. Presented is a circa 1980 Pete Rose Philadelphia Phillies worn batting practice jersey, one "Charlie Hustle" wore, even late in his 24-year Major League career, as he continued his love of batting practice. Rose passed away in late 2024, and although he is mainly remembered for his years with the Cincinnati Reds, he played from 1979-83 with the Philadelphia Phillies. The offered polyester short-sleeve jersey is wine red with white trim. There is a Wilson manufacturer's tag in the neck that shows size "44." Across the chest is "PHILLIES," in white sewn-on lettering. The left sleeve has "14" in sewn-on white numerals. On back is "ROSE" in white sewn-on letters, and "14" in white sewn-on numerals. The shirt shows medium wear, with some small stains and loose threads. Other than the aforementioned wear, it is in EXCELLENT condition. It's a remarkably fitting remembrance for a player whose fervent dedication to batting practice helped make him the game's all-time hit king.
