Pete Rose, with 4,256 hits, is the all-time Major League hit king. Presented is a 1965 Cincinnati Executives Association Award to the Cincinnati Reds' Pete Rose for leading the Major Leagues in hits that season. Rose, who passed away in 2024, played 24 Major League seasons: Cincinnati Reds (1963-78 & '84-86), Philadelphia Phillies (1979-84), Montreal Expos (1984). At various times in his career, Rose was a regular at first, second, and third base as well as in left and right fields. The 17-time All-Star batted a lifetime .303, with 160 home runs. He was a 3-time World Champion and a 3-time batting champion. In the '65 season when Rose led the Major Leagues in hits, Pete had 207 safeties to lead the NL, and the AL leader in hits was Tony Oliva, with 185 safe knocks. The award measures approx. 7x8", and it weighs 8.25 ounces. The wood plaque has machine printing on the plaque's "shield" which reads, "CEA 1965 AWARD TO PETE ROSE/CINCINNATI REDS/MOST HITS '209' IN BOTH MAJOR LEAGUES." On back, hand-printed in pencil by an unknown hand: "CINCINNATI EXECUTIVES ASSOCIATION." Rose signed the plaque in silver marker, in a big and bold signature. The plaque was originally obtained directly from Pete Rose. It is in EXCELLENT condition.
