Eddie Collins was a Hall of Fame second baseman who played for the Philadelphia Athletics and the Chicago White Sox. Displayed is a very rare Eddie Collins signed, game used 1926-29 Zinn Beck Bat Co., Model 100 Diamond Ace bat, Collins' only known signed, professional model, game used bat. Collins played for Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics (1906-14 & 1927-30) and the Chicago White Sox (1915-16). He was a 6-time WS Champion, with 3,315 hits and 1,821 runs. Collins, the 1914 AL MVP, was one of the honest players on the infamous 1919 Chicago "Black Sox." The bat is 34.5" in length, and it weighs 33.5 ounces. It is uncracked and shows evidence of outstanding use. Checking from repeated ball contact is on the back barrel. Bruises on the wood are seen on the right and front barrel. The handle was taped approx. 15.25" in a spiral pattern, but the tape is missing. Etched mid-barrel is "ZINN B AT CO. DIAMOND ACE/GREENVILLE S. CAROLINA" and "TYPE OF BAT USED BY COLLINS." The ash wood bat exhibits ball marks, scratches, and nicks. Etched by hand into the knob is "TL." Also, on the knob is a PSA sticker reading, "1B30448." Collins has signed the barrel, in black, steel-tip fountain ink. The bat comes with a September 28, 2022, PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and Authenticity. The aforementioned PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and AUTHENTICITY gives the bat a grade of PSA/DNA GU 6, and PSA/DNA notes in the Letter that, "This Letter of AUTHENTICITY is for the bat only. We have no opinion as to the authenticity of the signature." PSA/DNA states in its concluding paragraph,"....it is our opinion the bat is authentic, and was game used by Collins during the referenced period." The offering also comes with a November 9, 2023, JSA Letter of Authenticity that rates the Eddie Collins signature on the bat as "genuine" (Cert. Number: YY48350).
