Displayed is a 1926-29 George "High Pockets" Kelly Pro Model/Pro Stock
Zinn Beck ash bat. A Hall of Fame first baseman, Kelly played 16 Major League seasons: New York Giants (1915-17 & 1919-26), Cincinnati Reds
(1927-30), Chicago Cubs (1930), Brooklyn Dodgers (1932). His High
Pockets nickname was derived from his height: At 6'4", he was extremely
tall for his era, and thus, he literally had "high pockets." Kelly was a
2-time NL RBI leader, and he led the NL in home runs in 1921 (23). He
hit a lifetime .297. The Model 100 bat has a length of 34.75" and a
weight of 36.2 ounces. It has a standard finish. The bat is uncracked
and has evidence of outstanding use. Etched on the end of the knob: "THE
Z B 100 HAMOND." Popular stock models in the Zinn Beck catalogue were
Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby, Harry Heilman, and George Kelly. The pro
stock models and the professional models were almost identical. The bat
length, at 34.75 inches, represents a bat ordered at 35 inches, because
during the late 1920s, it was common for bats to be finished at 1/8th to
1/4 inch shorter than ordered. The barrel has a PSA sticker. The bat
comes with a Letter of Grading and Authenticity, with a PSA/DNA
Certification: 1B32422 and a bat grade: PSA GU 6.
