'Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?" sang Simon and Garfunkel on their hit song Mrs. Robinson (1968), and the musicians' choice of DiMaggio to represent an American icon was certainly apropos. Presented is a Joe DiMaggio single-signed Official American League Ball (Brown) with Joltin' Joe's signature on the sweet spot. The Hall of Fame center fielder engaged the entire country during his 1941 season when the Bronx Bomber hit in 56 consecutive games, a record still standing. As DiMaggio approached George Sisler's previous MLB record of 41 games and as Joe D's streak continued after he broke Sisler's mark, across the nation people would ask others, "How did Joe do today?" DiMaggio played his entire 13-season career with the Yankees. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he retired after the 1951 season. He was on nine World Championship teams, batted a career .325, and hit 361 home runs, fifth on the all-time MLB list when he retired. DiMaggio stayed prominently in the American consciousness after his playing career as he was at one time married to Marilyn Monroe, and later became a famous spokesperson for Mister Coffee. The signed ball has a few tiny indentations, and a few light smudges, with some overall light darkening. Otherwise, the baseball is in fine condition. DiMaggio's signature is neatly scripted in blue ballpoint, with a 9/9.5 autograph.
