Presented is a circa 1950 George "Red" Monger original Type I photograph used for his Bowman '50 and '51 card images. A big right-hander, Munger played ten Major League seasons: St. Louis Cardinals (1943-44 & 1946-52), Pittsburgh Pirates (1952-56). He has a 77-56 career record, with a 3.83 ERA. His most famous appearance was when he pitched a complete game for the Cardinals in a 12-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Game 4 of the 1946 World Series. St. Louis went on to win the '46 World Series in seven games. Monger threw hard but often battled control problems in his career. In 1950, Monger went 7-8 on the season, and in '51 he had a 4-6 record. The 8x10" black & white photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC. On the back of the photo, written in pencil by an unknown hand: "Munger/George Munger/#8 (not legible) 43/8." Stamped is "BASEBALL YEARBOOK." Also, stamped is "George Dorrill," a photographer, and the address of his St. Louis studio. The original photo is in excellent condition.
