Hall of Fame left-hander Lefty Grove pitched his entire 17-year Major League career in the American League, and he won exactly 300 games. Presented is a circa 1928 Lefty Grove A.L. Service Type I original photograph that was used for his 1928 Star Player Candy card. Grove pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics (1925-33) and the Boston Red Sox (1934-41). Grove's lifetime ERA was 3.06, and in losing "only" 141 games, he had an outstanding won-loss percentage of .680. He was a 2-time World Champion, a 6-time All-Star, a 2-time pitching Triple Crown winner, and a 9-time ERA leader. Star Candy produced trading cards in both 1928 and '29. The 1928 set was all of baseball players, but the 1929 set was a mix of celebrities, with only three baseball players included. The sepia cards measured 1.875x 2.875". The offered photograph measures 4x6.5". The photograph has been encapsulated and PSA Certified AUTHENTIC. The offering comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
