1968 Pittsburgh Pirates tri-fold spring training roster signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente on the reverse. Clemente has inscribed the roster sheet, "To Paul/Roberto Clemente" in black ink, with the signature grading 7/10. The "Paul" to whom this piece is inscribed is none other than our consignor, who met Clemente at a Pirates spring training game in 1968. He was a teenager at the time and attended the Pirates game with his family. Following the game, he noticed Clemente standing near the stands talking to some fans and, prodded by his father, summoned up the courage to approach Clemente and ask him for his autograph. Clemente was happy to oblige and signed both this roster and a baseball (offered as a separate lot in this auction). The roster (8.5x11"; unfolded) displays both horizontal and vertical folds (as issued), as well as black-ink notations on the interior recording the scores of many of the Pirates regular-season games through May.
