Edward Laning ad for beer at Sportsman's Park based on a 1941 print of a painting featuring Joe DiMaggio. Lot includes a copy of the 10x14" ad as well as a framed 10x12" of the illustration on which it was based. Joltin' Joe is actually in the background as fans celebrate his accomplishment - printed caption on verso reads "Seated in Lower Grandstand, Near Home Plate, Artist Edward Laning made sketches for the painting of Joe DiMaggio as he tied the all-time record," while a hand written label reads, "The Greatest Moment of Big League Baseball, July 4, 1941, Edward Laning @ HOF Cooperstown." In fact, that Independence Day was a rainout but it was the following day on which he hit safely in his 46th straight game, breaking the then-record en route to his majestic 56-game tally.
