Sourcing from the private collection of President to the Negro Leagues Players Association, Richard Berg, comes this Hillerich and Bradsby powerized bone rubbed bat dating to 1932 when Vic Harris and George Giles spent their 1932 season together playing in the East-West League on the Homestead Grays. This bat shows outstanding use with a repaired handle crack with nails and chip on the knob. Numerous ball marks can be found on the right, left and back barrel with cleat marks visible on all sides of the barrel. The left barrel has been sanded and planed to receive the factory side writing "V. Harris 7-30-32" in vintage grease pencil and "United Sports Goods" is written on the handle in pencil. The bat itself is a pre model George Giles professional model weighing 35.9 ounces and measuring 34.75" and "Giles" in block letting on the barrel. An excerpt from the PSA letter features: "An outstanding feature of the bat is the appearance of factory side writing on the right barrel baring the name of V. (Vic) Harris......"V.Harris" and the return are very clear, confirming the bat was returned by Vic Harris, Giles teammate on the 1932 Homestead Grays. The appearance of factory side writing matching the name of the player who is branded into the bat is considered to be impeccable provenance. In this case, the bat could have been used by both Giles and Harris with it being returned to Louisville Slugger by Harris." Comes with PSA LOA and is a great piece of Negro League baseball history.
