Pair of highly abused Rangers hockey pants from the late ‘60s/early 70s. While it’s unknown who wore them, the number “5” handwritten in 2 places on the inside of the upper hip pads leads to Rangers defenseman Dale Rolfe, who played with the team from 1970-75, though the blue pants with red & white piping were apparently also worn by at least one other player, since one of the “5’s” is crossed out and replaced with a “19”. If Rolfe indeed wore these, it more than refutes his rep as a guy who avoided punishment, since the pants are battered, ripped, caked with dirt and perspiration, and marked by several team repairs. Rust marks on the elastic support strap (which look sort of like dried blood -- perhaps from the beating Dave Schultz once gave Rolfe?). Lace-tied pants have 16 silver “Gerry Cosby” buttons across the waist. Hockey can’t get more authentic than this pair of shorts.
