Displayed is a signed and inscribed photo of Edmondo "Ed" Franco, one of Fordham University's famed Seven Blocks of Granite. Franco was born in downtown Manhattan, in New York City, in 1915. Franco, who played both guard and tackle at 5'8", 196 lbs., was on the 1935 Fordham team with Vince Lombardi, who played right guard on the Seven Blocks of Granite, the nickname for Fordham's great two-way line. The '35 squad finished at 6-1-2, with five shutouts and the team's only loss coming against New York University in the final game. Franco was a consensus All-American in both '37 and '38. Franco played in the NFL in 1944 for the Boston Yanks, but professional football didn't pay much in those days, and Franco became an assistant coach at Fordham. Later, he was successful in business and was a scout for Vince Lombardi for both the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins. He is an inductee to the College Football Hall of Fame.
The 8x10" black & white photo depicts Franco in uniform, without helmet, in a lineman's three-point stance. At the bottom of the photo is machine printed "ED FRANCO - College Football Hall of Fame." Franco signed and inscribed the photo in bold, neat script, using a fine tip blue marker, as "Sincerely best wishes/Ed Franco/7 Blocks of Granite." The bottom of the photo has a PSA sticker reading "AN27958." The offering comes with a PSA COA, "Cert. Number: AN27958." The offering is in EXCELLENT condition.
