Presented is a 1918 Tris Speaker Bain News Service Type I photo. Speaker, known as "the Gray Eagle," played 22 Major League seasons: Boston Americans/Red Sox (1907-15), Cleveland Indians (1916-26), Washington Senators (1927), Philadelphia Athletics (1928). The Hall of Famer had 3,514 career hits with a lifetime .345 batting average. A center fielder, he was renowned for playing an extremely shallow center field, and he was fantastic in retreating for fly balls. His very shallow positioning on defense made him often grab bouncing balls in center field and get force-outs at second base. He even participated in many double plays as an outfielder. He still holds MLB career records for assists, double plays, and unassisted double plays by an outfielder. He was a 3-time World Champion, the 1912 AL MVP, and the 1916 AL Batting Champion, with a .386 average. He was also the Cleveland manager for eight seasons.

The black & white photo measures 4x6". Written at the top is "Tris Speaker 4605 - 5 [or S]." The photo depicts Speaker, most likely before a game, signing a bat as he kneels on one leg on the field. On back is a stamped "Bain News Serice (partially obscured)" and a Bain News Service notice, attached over part of the earlier mentioned Bain stamp. The back also has a stamped "May 23, 1918" stamp, and in pencil, by an unknown hand, "Tris Speaker Cleve. B.B.P. [probably meaning base ball [sic] player)." The photo has been encapsulated and certified "TYPE I AUTHENTIC."
