Yelberton Abraham "Y.A." Tittle was a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback who earned fame with both the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Football Giants. Displayed is a Y.A. Tittle production proof photo that was used for his 1948-50 W468 Exhibit card. A star in college at LSU, Tittle began his pro career with the Baltimore Colts of the All-American Football Conference in 1948. He moved with the Colts to the NFL in 1950, and then from 1951-60 he played for San Francisco. He finished his career with the New York Giants from 1961-64. Tittle was selected for seven Pro Bowls. In his career, he threw for 28,339 yards and 212 touchdowns. Tittle led the New York Giants to the East Conference Championship in three straight seasons (1961-63). In '63, he was the NFL MVP when he led the NFL in many passing categories, including completion percentage (60.2) and touchdowns (36). In 1964, his talent waning, the 38-year-old Tittle played his final season. When later asked why he retired, Tittle good-naturedly referenced his young replacement as the Giants signal caller. "Not only did Gary Wood take my job, but he asked my permission to date my daughter." The offered approx. 7.1x9" proof photo has a Tittle facsimile autograph and some editing marks in the margins. On back, written in pencil by an unknown hand, "Y. A. Tittle Baltimore Colts". The back also has an "International News" stamp and editing instructions. The offered photo is in EXCELLENT condition. The original News Service production proof photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC."
