Original glass plate negative, culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives, capturing Christy Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants, circa 1911. Mathewson, who is wearing his team sweater, is pictured in mid-windup as he warms up on the sideline prior to a game at the Polo Grounds. Interestingly, an original Type I photo of this image, made from this very negative, appeared as Lot 390 in Lelands' 2021 Spring Classic auction. While it is impossible to say how many original Type I photos of this image have survived, there is only one original negative, which makes it a true "one of one." The negative (7x5") displays areas of emulsion loss along the borders and has Mathewson's last name written vertically along the left border.
