Displayed is a gorgeous 1931 Associated Press News Service Photo image of three Hall of Famers (left to right - Mickey Cochrane, Connie Mack, and Lefty Grove) on the American League Champion Philadelphia Athletics posing together one week before the '31 World Series. Gordon Stanley "Mickey" Cochrane was a catcher with the Philadelphia Athletics (1925-33) and the Detroit Tigers (1934-37). He batted a career .320. The 2-time AL MVP and 3-time World Series winner batted .349 for the '31 Athletics, who took the AL flag with a record of 107-45-1. Mickey Mantle is named after Mickey Cochrane. Connie Mack managed the Philadelphia Athletics for exactly fifty seasons, from 1901-50. He was at least a part owner of the team from 1901-54. He holds Major League records for wins (3,731), losses (3,948), and games managed (7,755). Mack was a 5-time World Series Champion with the Athletics. Lefty Grove had a marvelous season in 1931, as he won the AL pitching Triple Crown with a 31-4 record, a 2.06 ERA, and 175 strikeouts. He was also the AL MVP in '31. The Athletics lost the '31 World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. But at the time of this photo, the Athletics were at the tail end of a season when they became the AL Champions, and the happiness shows on all three faces. The black & white photo measures 8.1x9.9". The top right corner is missing, and there is some slight foxing. Otherwise, the photo is in nice condition. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
