Haines was an All-American in both baseball and football at Penn State University. He only played one season in the Major Leagues, with the Yankees. The offered signed contract is four pages measuring 8.5x11". Haines' salary was $800.00 a month. Haines neatly signed as H.L. Haines, in black or blue fountain ink. Signing for the Yankees was Jacob Ruppert, also neatly signing in blue or black fountain ink. the contract was dated as March 3, 1923, and American League President Ban Johnson signed the contract in black fountain ink on March 12, 1923. The contract was at one point folded in sixths for mailing and the folds remain. On the top of the first page an unknown hand has written "Haines 1923" in black fountain ink. A number of partial tears along the fold lines are evident. These tears average about 1.3 inches in length. The contract has a stamped New York Yankees seal. Parts of the contract show fading and uneven coloration from the passage of years. The contract comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
