Offered is the opportunity to own a piece of the original Forum Basketball Court. The Forum was a multi-purpose arena in Inglewood California, just outside of Los Angeles. It opened on Dec. 30, 1967, and it was the long-time home of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. In addition, many other teams called the Forum home. It was primarily a sports arena, but also was a concert venue, with performers such as The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Chicago, and many, many more. It is now known as the Kia Forum, and in 2012 was redesigned to be a music venue. The locker rooms were changed into dressing rooms for musical performers. Since the redesign, Aretha Franklin, KISS, the Eagles, Van Halen, and numerous other stars and acts have performed there. Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain was one of the greatest NBA players in history. He played 14 NBA seasons, winning two Championships. During the 1961-62 seasons, while with the Philadelphia Warriors, Chamberlain averaged an amazing 50.4 PPG, the highest in NBA history. On March 2, 1962, in a Philadelphia Warriors game against the New York Knicks that was played in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Chamberlain scored 100 points, still the most ever in one NBA contest. At the tail end of his NBA career, Chamberlain played for the Los Angeles Lakers (1968-72), and the Forum was the Lakers' home court. Chamberlain won his second NBA Championship when the Lakers took the 1971-72 playoffs. The offered segment of the original Forum basketball court measures 8x9.75", with a thickness of almost 1.25". The wooden segment weighs 34 ounces. The floor segment shows nice wear, with some nicks, scratches, and slight surface loss in a few spots, yet the piece is still in nice condition. Part of a red line from the court is still on the segment. Using a black marker, Chamberlain has neatly and boldly signed and inscribed, Wilt Chamberlain/H.O.F. 78. The offering comes with a COA from the Los Angeles Lakers, which reads in part, #13/Certificate of Authenticity/It is hereby certified that the piece of the original Forum Basketball Court which accompanies his document has been personally autographed by Wilt Chamberlain/The item was signed in the presence of The Los Angeles Lakers.
