Presented is a circa 2002 Mike Hargrove Baltimore Orioles signed Turn-Back-the-Clock manager's game worn jersey. As a player, Hargrove was a first baseman who played a dozen seasons in the Major Leagues: Texas Rangers (1974-78), San Diego Padres (1979), Cleveland Indians (1979-85). Although he did not have the power usually displayed by a first-sacker, Hargrove was an effective hitter, hitting for a lifetime .290 batting average. His notoriously slow and prolonged at-bats earned him the well-deserved nickname of "The Human Rain Delay." He would step out of the batters' box after every pitch, and begin the following ritual: adjust his helmet, and then adjust his batting glove, pull up each sleeve, and wipe both his hands on his pants. Even worse, sometimes he would repeat the routine before stepping back into the box. In addition, Hargrove was adept at fouling off pitches. This helped him have an excellent career OBP of .396. However, his enormously prolonged at-bats irritated fans, press, and announcers, and infuriated opposing pitchers. After his playing career, Hargrove managed the Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles (2000-03), and Seattle Mariners. In 2002, he was the Baltimore Orioles' skipper when they had a 67-95 record, for 4th place in the AL East. The offered jersey is gray, with orange and black trim. Across the chest is Baltimore in sewn-on orange script with black trim. On the lower front left is 30 in sewn-on orange numerals with black trim. On the outside left tail is a Cooperstown Authentic Collection/Mitchell & Ness tag. On back is HARGROVE in sewn-on orange, block letters with black trim. Under the player's name is 30 in sewn-on orange numerals with black trim. In the collar is a Mitchell & Ness Nostalgia Co. manufacturer's tag. Also, in the collar is a tag giving the size as XXL. Hargrove signed just above the left, outside tail in black, fine tip marker. The signature is clearly written. There are unconfirmed reports that Hargrove did not step out of the room between each jersey signing. The jersey shows very light wear and is in excellent condition.
