Presented is a Ty Cobb signed newspaper photo of himself sliding into third base, one of the most famous of all baseball photos. Cobb played 24 Major League seasons (1905-28), all with the Detroit Tigers except the final two years when he played with the Philadelphia Athletics. Cobb retired with 4,189 hits, formerly the all-time MLB record. Cobb won 12 batting titles, more than any other player, and his .366 lifetime batting average is the highest in Major League history. He was an Inaugural Inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The newspaper photo came from the iconic Charles Conlon 1921 photo of the Detroit Tigers' Cobb hard sliding into third base against Frank "Home Run" Baker, fellow Hall of Famer. The photo shows Cobb's classic, fiery determination on his face as he plays, as always, all-out to win. The photo, clipped from a newspaper, measures 4.6x6". The photo has darkened somewhat after more than a century, and there is a very small section of paper loss along the left side. Cobb signed the photo, using his trademark green ink from a fountain pen. Cobb's signature is big and bold. The signed newspaper photo has been encapsulated and its PSA/DNA Certified Auto Grade is NM-MT 8.
