Presented is a Honus Wagner signed First Day Cover of June 12, 1939, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of baseball. Johannes Peter "Honus" Wagner played 21 seasons in the Major Leagues, almost all with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is tied with Tony Gwynn for the most batting titles ever won, with eight. Wagner batted .329 lifetime, with 3,430 hits and 722 steals. He was a key part of the 1909 Pittsburgh World Champions. He is often considered the best shortstop in baseball history. Wagner was one of the inaugural five members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The offered envelope measures 3.6x6.4". The envelope has a canceled stamp that reads, Centennial of Baseball/1839-1939/United States Postage/3 Cents, and the stamp has a charming vintage image of children playing baseball, presumably in Cooperstown. The cancellation stamped on the envelope reads, COOPERSTOWN JUNE 12 9:00 A.M. 1939 N.Y. The envelope has an image of Wagner and raised lettering that reads, in part, 1839/1939/BASEBALL ISSUE COMMEMORATING 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF BASEBALL 'AMERICA'S NATIONAL GAME'. The face of the envelope also contains, in raised lettering, a thumbnail biography of Wagner. The back of the envelope also has a First Day Issue notice, with an image of a baseball and reading "Base Ball Centennial 1939-1939." The back has two approx. 0.25x3.0" matching stains, mostly likely from glue or tape. Overall, the envelope is in nice condition. Wagner signed the envelope in neatly scripted, black ink. The First Day Issue has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA Certified AUTO GRADE of MINT 9.
