Displayed is a 3.8x4.8" negative that was used for Rockne's 1935 National Chicle football card. Rockne played football as an All-American end at Notre Dame and later was Notre Dame's head coach. Highly intelligent, he had also taught Chemistry and Latin at Notre Dame, Rockne was an innovator, and a marvelous motivator. His "Win one for the Gipper" speech was immortalized by actor Pat O'Brien in the movie Knute Rockne of Notre Dame. Rockne had a 105-12-5 record at Notre Dame, with six National Championships and five undefeated teams. He is an inductee of the National College Football Hall of Fame. The 1935 Chicle set originally had 24 cards, each measuring approx. 2.375x2.875". Rockne's card is #9 in the set. The cards were artistically created and colorized based on the photos. Chicle expanded the set to 36 cards. Some of the other cards in the set: Shipwreck Kelley, Beattie Feathers, Clarks Hinkle, Ken Strong, and Bronko Nagurski. The negative shows Rockne in a crouch, like a lineman. The negative is in excellent condition.
