Displayed is a Knute Rockne oversized negative collection with eight (8) negatives, from the famous Brown Brothers Photographers, of the legendary Notre Dame football coach. Rockne coached at Notre Dame from 1918 until 1930. He had six national Champions, five undefeated teams, and an overall record of 105-12-5. Rockne was not only a master of football technique and strategy; he was also a great showman, who used his magnetic personality and great verbal skills to take the "little" school from South Bend, Indiana, and make the Fighting Irish a National Powerhouse. Rockne died in a plane crash in 1931, only 43 years old. Four of the offered negatives measure 6.3x8.3". One of these negatives shows Rockne, apparently after accepting an award; another negative shows Rockne and his wife; a third negative is a headshot of a formally-dressed Rockne; the remaining larger negative shows Rockne with two other men. Rockne is in the middle, flanked by men called Bryne and John Boyle, according to writing by in an unknown hand at the top of the negative. The other four negatives measure approx. 8x10". Two of these negatives are different shots of him coaching, with one of the negatives having writing in an unknown hand stating that the negative comes "from Mrs. Rockne's collection"; another negative shows Rockne holding a dog mascot; another shows Rockne speaking into a large microphone. The negatives come in an 8.25x10.4" Brown Brothers envelope, with many tears and having Q3393 Knute Rockne written on it in pencil by an unknown hand.
