Displayed is a very rare circa 1935 Detroit Tigers leather beanie, the first we have seen. The '35 Detroit Tigers were the World Champions, and the team had four Hall of Famers: Manager and catcher Mickey Cochrane, who batted .319 in '35; first baseman Hank Greenberg, who had a monster '35 season, batting .328, with 36 homers and 168 RBIs; outfielder Goose Goslin, who had 111 RBIs; second baseman Charlie Gehringer, who hit .330, with 19 home runs and 111 RBIs. The beanie has several team members' names written on the panels, by an unknown hand in light ink. Some of the letters in the names on the beanie are too light to be read, or to even fully appear. Some of the more visible names of '35 Tigers players handprinted on the beanie: Cochrane, Greenberg, Goslin (OF); Marv Owen (third base); Flea Clifton (third base); Heinie Schubie (infield). Aside from the handprinted names, the beanie is in excellent condition. It has a diameter of approx. 6.5", and it has no size listed but was made to fit a child or youth. It weighs 1.1 ounces. TIGERS is imprinted on the outer hatband. The top of the beanie has six panels. The three lighter panels have an imprinted image of a tiger. It is a very rare souvenir that has survived the ages.
