"Baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out," said Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, who was anything but a mollycoddle. Possibly the fiercest, toughest competitor to ever step on a Major League diamond, Cobb was the fiery on-field leader of the Detroit Tigers from 1905-26, and sometimes the team's manager as well. Presented is a beautiful, hand-crafted, Ty Cobb-era Detroit Tigers pillow, with a ferocious, teeth-bared, tenacious tiger depicted on the front, a tiger that fully coveys the aggressive, attacking style of play advocated by Cobb. The Georgia Peach didn't just join in a baseball game; he tried to command it - and often succeeded. He won 12 AL batting tiles and still has the highest lifetime batting average in Major League history (.366). At one time. Cobb held the MLB records for hits (4,198) and stolen bases (897). Cobb led the Tigers to three AL pennants. The offered pillow, not including several inches of fringe on each side, measures approx. 16x18". It features the Detroit Tigers colors of orange and black, and the addition of yellow. The pillow has a pennant with DETROIT on it above a large, snarling tiger's head. There is no writing of "Tigers" because, with the wondrous embroidery of the menacing tiger, there is actually no reason to embroider the words, as the embroidered, silent tiger speaks a thousand words. The embroidery is extremely well done and seems to date from the 1910s-20s. The exquisite decoration on the pillow is all hand-stitched. The pillow even has orange glass eyes affixed into white orbs that make the tiger's eyes appear to be actually alive. The pillow is in remarkable condition for its age. It has a few stains, almost all on the back, but it is otherwise EXCELLENT. The terrifying Tiger pillow is at the same time a gorgeous creation and certainly worthy of Ty Cobb, the most terrifying Tiger of them all.
