Exceedingly rare Detroit Tigers warmup jersey dating from the circa 1950s. This is not only the first example of this Detroit warmup we have ever handled, but the only one we have seen. The navy Dureen jersey, with half-zippered front, features a white chenille gothic D on the left breast. Both the sleeves and waist are cuffed in navy trim. A Wilson label and 48 size tag appear in the collar. The jersey, which is original as issued, displays moderate use, including a few small tears to the trim along the waist. This jersey was presumably used by Tigers players for batting practice and pregame warmups, and possibly spring training. Vintage team warmups and jackets from the 1950s are much scarcer than jerseys because they were usually used for multiple seasons by several players until they finally wore out, at which time they were simply discarded. This is an exceptional example and one that would make a fine addition to any advanced Major League uniform or Detroit Tigers collection.
