Displayed is a 1993 All-Star Game Tommy Lasorda Los Angeles Dodgers team-signed (25+) gray knit road jersey that was game worn by the Hall of Fame manager. Lasorda grew up in Norristown, Pennsylvania. After a lengthy minor league stint as a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Brooklyn Dodgers, Lasorda finally made the Major Leagues in 1954 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. In very limited play for the Dodgers in 1954-55 and the Kansas City Athletics in '56, Lasorda had an 0-4 record. After Lasorda was sent down to the minors in '55, he was replaced on the Brooklyn roster by future Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax. Lasorda later joked that it took an immortal pitcher like Koufax to get him out of the Major Leagues. He later found his true calling as a Major League manager. After working as a minor league manager and a Major League coach, Lasorda managed the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1967-96, winning two World Championships and four pennants. Lasorda passed away in 2021. His uniform number 2 has been retired by the Dodgers. The jersey has Dodgers across the chest in sewn-on blue script with white trim. Six silver-gray buttons run down the front. A red number 2 is sewn on the left chest. The left sleeve has a memorial patch that honors two former Brooklyn Dodgers: 39 ROY, for Hall of Fame catcher Roy Campanella; and DON 53, for pitcher Don Newcombe. The left sleeve has a patch for the 1993 All-Star game hosted by the Baltimore Orioles and a 52 memorial patch for Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Tim Crews. The back has LASORDA in sewn-on blue block letters, with white trim. Below the name is 2 in a sewn-on blue numeral with white trim. There is a Rawlings size 44 tag inside the tail, along with a Set 2 1992 flag tag. Although it is tagged as 1992, it was used in the 1993 season. He had the 1993 NL All Star team sign the back of the jersey. The only NL All-Star who signed the front is Hall of Famer Mike Piazza. Signatures on back, signed in black marker, include Hall of Famers Lasorda, Ryne Sandberg, Tony Gwynn, Tom Glavine, Barry Larkin, and Greg Maddux. Plus, stars Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, Jay Bell, Darryl Kile, Dave Hollins, David Justice, and many more. This jersey came from Tommy Lasorda, and it shows fine use.
