Presented is a 1976 Cincinnati Reds' World Series champagne bottle used in the Reds' clubhouse celebration following Cincinnati's four-game sweep of the New York Yankees, plus a photo signed by Reds' manager Sparky Anderson and Johnny Bench celebrating with an identical bottle. The Reds' sweep of the Yankees in the '76 World Series was the crowning achievement of the famous Big Red Machine. In the Reds' 1970s dynasty, Cincinnati won the NL pennant in '70, '72, '75, and '76. So, when the Reds followed the team's '75 World Championship with another World Series title in '76, it marked back-to-back titles for the Reds. Cincinnati went 102-60 in the '75 regular season. Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan batted .320 that year, with 27 home runs and 111 RBIs. Pete Rose played third base and batted .323. The entire Reds' outfield hit over .300 in '76, with Ken Griffey Sr. hitting .336, and George Foster bashing 29 home runs and adding 121 RBIs. Seven Reds' pitchers won at least 11 games, with starter Gary Nolan having the most wins, at 15. The Reds were undefeated in postseason play that year, the first team in multi-layered playoffs to go undefeated, as the Reds swept the Philadelphia Phillies in three games. The Reds hot hitting continued into the World Series, with Morgan hitting .333, Dan Driessen batting .357, and catcher Johnny Bench winning World Series MVP honors with an amazing Series, as he hit .533, with two home runs, six RBIs, and an OPS of 1.667. The Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin champagne bottle contained "one pint and 10 fluid ounces." It has the original Clicquot labels on the neck and at the bottom, both in front and back. The cork has been removed and all of the champagne either sprayed or consumed. The bottle shows use, with a small part of the neck label at the top missing, presumably when the bottle was opened. The included black & white photo shows a visible measurement at 1.6x10.3", matted and framed to 12.7x15.7". The vividly clear photo shows both Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson and Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench with an identical bottle of champagne. Both Anderson and Bench have signed the photo, each in neatly scripted, blue marker. This is one of only 48 bottles. After the bottle was used in the clubhouse celebration, it was sold by the Reds' 580 Gift Shop. The offering comes with a Collectors' Certificate from the Cincinnati Reds stating that "the contents of the enclosed champagne bottle was used in the Cincinnati Reds' celebration of their 1978 World Championship."
