In the 1920 World Series, the Cleveland Indians defeated the Brooklyn Robins by 5-2 in games. It was the second of three consecutive World Series that were played in a best-of-nine game format. Presented is a rare, 1920 World Series Press ticket stub for Ebbets Field. The team most commonly called the Brooklyn Dodgers was known as the Robins from 1916-31 in honor of their extremely popular Hall of Fame manager, Wilbert Robinson. The '20 World Series used a 3-4-2 home game format, with the first three games played at Ebbets Field, and the next four games played at League Park, in Cleveland. Brooklyn took a 2-1 lead in the games played at Ebbets Field, from Oct. 5-7. When the games moved to Cleveland, the Indians swept the four games, winning the World Series with a 3-0 win on October 12th. The most noteworthy play in that year's World Series was an unassisted triple play by the Indians' second baseman Bill Wambganss in the fifth inning of Game 5. It remains the only unassisted triple play in World Series history. The Cleveland player/manager, Tris Speaker, batted .320 for the World Series, and the Indians' best pitcher in the fall classic was Stan Coveleski, who pitched three complete games, going 3-0 with a 0.67 ERA. Zack Wheat led the Brooklyn batters, batting .320. Hall of Famers in the Series: Umpires - Bill Klem, Tommy Connolly, and Hank O'Day; Cleveland - Coveleski, Joe Sewell, and Speaker; Brooklyn - Wilbert Robinson (manager), Burleigh Grimes, Rube Marquard, and Wheat. The ticket measures 1.5x5.1". It does not list a particular game at Ebbets Field. The ticket reads, World Series 1920/PRESS ticket/Brooklyn National League Baseball Club, Ebbets Field/BROOKLYN - NEW YORK/Admit One to Press Stands/Coupon 6/"110"/S. McKeever Treasurer/Charles H. Ebbets/President. The ticket stub has been encapsulated and PSA certified as AUTHENTIC. The stub looks to be close to EX condition, with no creases.
