Rare real-photo postcard capturing pregame action during a 1907 World Series game held at Chicago's West Side Grounds. This is just the second example of this postcard we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen any others at auction in the past twenty years. The series featured some of the biggest names in baseball history with Ty Cobb, Frank Chance, Johnny Evers, Sam Crawford and Joe Tinker. A vintage black fountain-pen notation along the base reads "Chicago - Detroit Game Oct 8 - 1907." October 8, 1907, was the date of the first game of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers. The scene pictured here shows players from both teams warming up on the sideline prior to the game, with the Cubs taking batting practice. The reverse is free of any writing or postal markings. The postcard (5.5x3.5") displays several light-to-moderate creases. Good to Very Good condition overall.
