Babe Ruth had a tremendous season in 1929: The Inaugural Hall of Fame Inductee led the American League in home runs (46), slugging (.697) and OPS (.128), and he batted .345. His New York Yankees, however, finished in second place, with a record of 88-66. Presented is a 1929 Babe Ruth personally-owned metal membership card for the Tulsan Athletic Club, of Tulsa Oklahoma. The 2.25x3.2" card was originally gold-colored, but the passage of time over nine decades has resulted in some color fading. The raised lettering on the card shows some fading. It reads, "TULSAN ATHLETIC CLUB/this is to certify that 'BABE' RUTH is a founder member of the TULSAN ATHLETIC CLUB/4-8-29." The facsimile signatures at the bottom read, "WM Acher [?]" and "Frank Cerr [?]." The top of the pass includes a diamond-shaped club logo reading, "TAC." The pass comes in its original carrying case, which when folded measures 2.4x3.6". The case exhibits wear, especially at the fold, with the outer gold color worn away. The carrying case is embossed with "BABE" RUTH. By itself, the pass weighs 0.75 ounces. There was only one Babe Ruth, and this unusual offering makes a fine remembrance for the illustrious Sultan of Swat.
