Circa 1970s New York Rangers jersey game worn by star forward Rod Gilbert. White home jersey (missing original collar tie string) has Gerry Cosby size 48 tagging in the collar, RANGERS is diagonally across the chest with number 7 - the first number to be retired by the Rangers - on shoulders and back; name is in individually-stitched letters above the rear number, all in iconic 3-D blue-on-red tackle twill. All original sweater displays light but definite use with stick marks, mild pilling inside, and even a few stains which appear to be blood, plus a few light tape stains on back from being framed. As part of the Blueshirts' famed "GAG" line (standing for Goal-A-Game) along with star linemates Vic Hadfield and Jean Ratelle, the Rangers were perennial Stanley Cup contenders, particularly from the 1970-71 through '73-74 period in which this was worn. In that four-year stretch, they advanced to the semi-finals each season, appearing in the the Stanley Cup Finals in '72-73, though they were unable to capture the silver chalice despite the best efforts of this immensely popular Hall of Famer, who played all of his 10 seasons in the Big Apple and became affectionately known as "Mr. Ranger."
