Collection of fifteen photographs capturing former Boston Red Sox pitcher "Smokey Joe" Wood. These photos originate from the personal collection of a former Boston sportswriter, who acquired most of them from his newspaper's photo department. The majority are news photos and many feature date stamps on the reverse. Nine picture Wood as a member of the Boston Red Sox and three picture him as a member of the Cleveland Indians. Two of the remaining three picture him in street clothes, while the other captures him as a coach at Yale University. Two of the photos are date-stamped 1912 on the reverse and another is date-stamped 1913. Remaining date-stamps are mostly from the 1920s. Sizes range from 3x4.25" to 8x10", with the majority measuring 6x8" or larger. Because most are news photos, many display flaws consistent with their former use, including, but not limited to, trimming, creasing, crazing, edge tears, editorial shading and/or markings, pinholes, and writing on the reverse.
