Walter Johnson, "The Big Train," is one the inaugural five players chosen to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Displayed is a signed vintage photograph of Johnson. Johnson is out of uniform, and he appears to be in a rural area, possibly on a farm. The year of the photo is unknown. Johnson was a right-handed pitcher with exceedingly long arms, and those long limbs propelled a fastball whose speed was legendary. Hall of Famer Ty Cobb recalled the first time he and his Detroit Tigers team ever faced Johnson: "The first time I faced him I watched him take that easy wind-up and then something went by me that made me flinch. The ball hissed with danger.... Everyone knew that we'd met the most powerful arm ever turned loose on a ball field." Johnson spent his entire 21-year Major League career with the Washington Senators, and he won 417 games, the second most number, behind Cy Young's 511, in history. Johnson has a 417-279 lifetime record, with a career ERA of 2.17 and he was a part of the 1924 World Champion Senators. Johnson has signed the photo, in ink from a fountain pen, by neatly inscribing and signing "Best Wishes Walter Johnson." The photo measures 3.1x5", and it exhibits marks in the upper and lower left corners that indicate that the photo was once placed in a scrapbook. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA certified "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
