1999 San Diego Padres helmet was used by Hall of Fame hitman Tony Gwynn to record his 2,995th career hit. Navy blue helmet has interlocking white-and-orange SD logo and shows nice use, particularly to the interior leather padding. ABC manufacturer's logo is to the right of a number 19 decal in orange-on-white; inside is an MLB Authentic Diamond Collection and ABC size 7 1/8 stickers. On the size label is "2995" written in black marker, and "#2995 - 8/2/99 - vs STL" is on the rear pad. Gwynn has added his signature in bold 9/10 silver marker to complete the magnificent picture. One of the greatest pure hitters in baseball history, Gwynn tied Honus Wagner with an amazing eight batting titles in his 20 seasons, all spent with the Padres. So prolific was the career .338 career hitter that the award now bears his name - The Tony Gwynn National League Batting Champion.
