This framed photo and signed letter dates from 1937 and the "Sino-Japanese War," which was the impetus for Bowman's popular 1938 "Horrors of War" set. The period was one in which Japan was crushing China, in the years leading up to World War II. The piece is framed and matted to 20x14.5" and the letter is on White House stationery dated May 14, 1937, and addressed to Leighton Shied, the US District Attorney based in Shanghai during the conflict, and signed by FDR. Each comes certified by PSA.
