Tremendous Eddie Mathews signed and inscribed glove used during the 1957 season and World Series. Mathews is one of the best third basemen in the history of baseball, finishing his career with an impressive 512 home runs, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. He had a predictably solid year in '57, batting .292 with 32 home runs and 94 RBIs, and along with teammate Hank Aaron led the Braves to World Series glory. The high point of his year came in Game 4 of the World Series, when he hit a towering walk-off home run in extra innings to even the series with the New York Yankees at two games apiece. This Rawlings model BD fielder's glove was made in either '56 or '57, and shows a season's worth of use but is still in great condition. Mathews signed on the thumb in 8/10 black Sharpie and his number "41" is written in vintage pen on the wrist strap. The glove was given to Greg Norvik, an 8-year-old boy who informed Mathews that he had lost his glove, in 1958 at County Stadium. "G. Norvik" can be found on the wrist backing in faded black marker, while "NORVIK" appears on the inside palm. The glove comes with a signed letter from Mathews himself stating that he gave this glove to Norvik in '58, and that he used this glove during the 1957 season and World Series. It also comes with a letter from Norvik and PSA, and an additional handwritten note from Mathews reiterating the story of the glove. This is a brilliant piece of memorabilia from Mathews, who also holds the unique distinction of being the only player to be a part of all three Braves locations: Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.
