This original pen and ink piece entitled "Dome off a Frankfurter" was done in 1907 by Tad Dorgan, who was erroneously given credit for coining the term "hot dog" in 1901. The scene depicts a courtroom of dogs with one in the middle saying "Gen-Tle-Men of the Jury - Does the defendant look as though he'd bite the dome off a frankfurter?" Nearby, the "Frankfurter Family" grieves the loss of their brother, Amiel, while a dog in the jury says "I wish they'd chuck me a frankfurter." Harry M. Stevens is believed to be the inventor of the hot dog in 1901, while Dorgan, who documented the event in a cartoon, allegedly could not spell dachshund and instead wrote "hot dog." The piece, which has a minor tear on the left edge, measures 10x24" and is framed to 14x28".
