Known as the "Old Arbitrator," Bill Klem was a National League umpire from 1905 to 1941, and was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953. His mark of working 18 different World Series is a record that still stands. This 10.5x13" oversized photo is a splendid Type I original showing Klem in a crouched position, presumably calling a runner safe. It has been signed and personalized by Klem in 8/10 black fountain ink in the top right corner, which serves as a beautiful contrast, with the inscription, "With all good wishes To Mr. & Mrs. Jas. A. Mulvey, Fr. The Old Arbitrator, W.J. Klem 1941." At the time, Mulvey was part-owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, retaining his stake in the team when they moved west in 1957. The photo has a few small tears, only at the bottom border, and a few wrinkles, but no creases that crack the paper. This very rare signed photo comes with a JSA LOA.
