MAD Magazine Original Cover Art for the Publication Rocktober #23 (Fall 1998) featuring Sammy Davis Jr. singing to a MAD Crowd. Sammy Davis Jr. is wearing a gold necklace that says "Peace Love Sammy," and an SD crest on his blazer. You can see stage left Gene Simmons with Alfred E. Neuman (female version) as his date. Taking a tour around the room you see the Rocktober crowd dressed with their hood masks. Also, Tarzan and the apes, Frankenstein, a martian, a pumpkin, a mummy, and others. Adding to the humor is that each character is actually Alfred E Newman; just what you would expect from Alfred in his tongue-in-cheek appearances. When the publishers of MAD D.C. discovered this unlicensed art was being used they weren't happy and sent a cease and desist order to the publisher of Rocktober Magazine. Many of the publications were destroyed and unreleased. The editor of the magazine considered the legal action to be a badge of honor, therefore it is very rare and would be sought-after by collectors. This is the ultimate in Alfred artwork from this esoteric publication. Paired up with this offering (out of the frame) is a copy of the Rocktober #23 magazine. Very rare since it was pulled form production and only few copies exist today. Beyond that included is a letter from Jacqueline Michele Stewart of Rocktober Records. There are lots and lots of MAD parodies in the magazine. The issue was devoted to MAD magazine and Sammy Davis Jr. This is quite possibly one of the rarest pieces if not the rarest outside of the mainstream MAD art. Doesn't hurt also that the art is tons of fun with Sammy Davis Jr. smiling front and center with an Alfred eye patch and Alfred mask hanging from the microphone. The artwork is signed by the artist in the lower right.
